British Columbia Residents – Walk-ins are welcome if space is available. To book an appointment, register online at getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca, or call: 1-833-838-2323. Once you are registered, you can book through the provincial booking system. Be sure to select your Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart Foods or Urban Fare Pharmacy of choice and download and complete your Vaccine Consent Form.

Fluzone® High Dose – Seniors 65 years and older - Health Canada recommends enhanced influenza vaccines for adults 65 years and older due to their higher risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and even death from the flu virus. Fluzone High Dose* is a quadrivalent flu vaccine that covers four strains of the flu virus and has 4 times the concentration than standard flu vaccines; this is intended to give a better immune response and protection for this population group.

*Public coverage for FLUZONE® High-Dose will vary between provinces. In BC, Fluzone HD is not public-funded. To book your private Fluzone HD shot or join the waitlist.

WHY SHOULD I GET THE FLU SHOT?

The flu shot is your best defense against the flu, better preparing your body to quickly destroy the flu virus if in contact. Health Canada recommends the flu vaccine for everyone over the age of six months, including those who are pregnant.

I GOT THE FLU SHOT LAST YEAR. DO I NEED IT AGAIN?

Flu virus strains change every year. Having the flu shot annually will help keep you protected from these new strains.

WHY SHOULD I GET A FLU SHOT IF I AM HEALTHY?

You can be infected with the flu virus without showing any symptoms. Getting the flu shot helps protect yourself as well as those around you who may be vulnerable and at risk of severe complications from the flu.

CAN I GET THE FLU FROM THE FLU SHOT?

The flu vaccine cannot give you the flu.

WHAT OTHER STEPS CAN I TAKE TO PREVENT THE FLU?

Aside from the flu shot, frequent hand washing, staying active and eating a healthy balanced diet can help. If you get the flu, stay home, and get plenty of rest. See your pharmacist for symptomatic relief and advice.

WHY ARE THERE DIFFERENT FLU VACCINE TYPES?

Adults 65+ and people with chronic diseases may be at higher risk for influenza and its complications. Therefore, it’s important to choose the right flu vaccine for you.

  • Fluad – flu vaccine for adults 65 years and older; made with an adjuvant, an ingredient that helps create a stronger immune response.
  • Flucelvax - does not contain eggs or latex. It can be used for adults and children 2 years and older.
  • FluMist® – a nasal spray flu vaccine for those 2 years to 59 years of age.
  • Fluzone® High-Dose - is a 4x the concentration of the regular flu vaccine to help create a stronger immune response.

What Vaccines Do You Need?

Vaccines protect you and your community from serious diseases, and adults need them too because immunity can fade and some vaccines require boosters. If you missed vaccines as a child or your immune system weakens with age, staying updated is important. Your doctor or pharmacist can review your history, recommend needed vaccines based on your health and lifestyle, and often give them during one convenient visit.
